Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am on 5mg and 6mg of warfarin alternate days following a partially oclusive thrombus in my leg. I've been on meds for about a year now and will be on long term due to protein s deficiency. Recent weeks I am spitting up more blood and every day, but especially more so after any alcohol even one drink. I regularly wake in morning with metallic taste in mouth with brown spit. Is this all normal side effects or should I go to my doctors?
As per your query you have symptoms of metallic taste in mouth post Warfarin intake which is very common after intake of warfarin specially after intake of more than one month and this tendency is more with increasing age and more commonly in males.
Need not to worry about anything. Visit your general practitioner/ cardiologist once to check if any other anti-platelet or thrombolytic medication he can give you for your condition or to change the dosage of warfarin.
Alcohol, cigarette smoking will increase bleeding if taken along with warfarin as they started acting act blood thinners so i would suggest you to avoid such combination.
Aspirin, zomata are other drugs which can be replaced for your condition. take multivitamins to keep oral flora healthy and free from microbes. Keep chewing anti caloric sweetening agents.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
