Does Uti Cause Vaginal Bleeding?

I have pain and bleeding when I urinate which I thought was just another UTI but I am also having vaginal bleed and cramps like if I had a period. I am 65 yrs old and haven t had a period in 19 years. I was wondering if a UTI can also cause vaginal bleeding at the same time? I just had a pap smear done 3 weeks ago and that came out normal.

Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. Yes, infection involving the cervix or uterus can present with vaginal bleed and cramps.
2. The UTI could have ascended up into the genital tract.
3. A repeat pap would show inflammatory smear with infection.
4. Need treatment with antibiotics - as infection has ascended. Treatment needed at earliest, as it can ascend further and result in pelvic infection.
Meet your doctor for urine/ cervical smear culture and sensitivity tests and appropriate antibiotics treatment.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
