Does Taking Micronized Progesterone Cause Delayed Periods?

My period is 4 days late and I don t feel like it is coming. I took 2 home pregnancy tests that both were negative. I was put on micronized progesterone about two weeks ago could that be causing my period to be delayed? Or is it more likely that I am pregnant? The first day of my last period was July 7th.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Both possibilities can occur. Being pregnant or taking progesterone can cause a delay in periods.
Stopping the progesterone intake can make your periods to happen within 7 days of stopping it.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
