Does Stress Fracture Need A Bone Surgeon?

I had an xray on my left foot because of severe pain; ER said it appeared to be a stress fracture; suggested a visit to a bone surgeon. My Primary Care Physician suggested a Podiatrist. I had a bad experience w/a Podiatrist a few years ago. I am on Medicare plus supplemental. Where should I go?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
I think it is good to show to a orthopaedic surgeon then a podiatric surgeon as they have better understanding of the bone metabolism. Usually stress fracture is due to continuous pressure on the affected side, and also there is low level of calcium and vitamin D. I would also suggest you to get serum calcium and vitamin D estimation to see if it is lower then normal.
For treatment of stress fracture you will need splint for 2 to 3 months and also weight bearing should not be allowed.
Take regular calcium supplementation along with this supplementation.
