Does Smoking Cause Spots Under The Tongue?

I have high dusplasia under my tongue and have had surgery to remove that spot about a dime size but very thin. Also some kind of spots noticed at base of tongue which he explored last surgery July 2017 Nothing showed but they want to explore with surgery once more. This Doc says is caused by smoking since 17. I’m 62 now. Thoughts? Anyone experience this? i also have Lymphoma since 2006, not curable but slow moving and manageable, form of blood cancer since 2006. Thanksgor any responce.

Hello,

Spots under tongue can be due to a number of causes depending upon its color and appearance. If it is black in color, then it can be due to smokers melanosis, while if it is white in color, then it can be due to hyperkeratosis or Leukoplakia. So my suggestion is to consult an oral physician or an oral pathologist and get evaluated. If needed a biopsy can be done for confirmation of the exact cause of the spots. Treatment can be planned only after a confirmed diagnosis is made.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
