Does Smoking Marijuana Reduce The Efficacy Of Plan B?

Hi. I had sex with my boyfriend yesterday and we lost the condom. But about half an hour later we found it stuck inside my vagina. He did not ejaculate in me, but I took plan b 3 hours later anyways. The day after (like 14 hours later) I smoked weed. I was wondering if that would affect the plan b?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome.

Marijuana is unlikely to reduce the efficacy of Plan-B.

Even though your boyfriend didn't ejaculate inside the condom, there still could have been pre-ejaculation secretions that could have leaked out into you thus resulting in a slim chance of getting pregnant.

Since you have taken Plan-B after 3 hours of an unprotected sex following the slipping of the condom ("birth control failure"), it is effective in preventing pregnancy.

Smoking Marijuana 14 hours later is unlikely to reduce the contraceptive effects of Plan-B.

Hope these answer your queries.
