Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Does Severe Stomach Ache And Red Vomit Indicate Stomach Ulcer?
Hi so I think I have a stomach ulcer. I was having sever stomach pains almost a month ago, not bad enough to where I could not walk, but bad enough to where it hurt to. I thought it was maybe constipation, but the other day I ended up throwing up red.
Hi, I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns. I have seen many similar cases in our ER department. If I were your treating physician I would take a detailed history(especially about your drinking habits) and investigations to find out the exact cause. As per your clinical history you are probably having peptic ulcer disease, the other possibility is bleeding esophageal varices (dilated veins at the lower end of your food pipe). Both of these are common in alcoholics. We have to do an endoscopy to confirm the diagnosis. While doing the endoscopy we would take a small bit of your stomach tissue for biopsy. Based on my experience I suggest you to consult a gastroenterologist and get an upper GI endoscopy done. You may also require other investigations like ultrasound abdomen. As of now you can use PPI(proton pump inhibitors) like omeprazole. You should not drink alcohol atleast for few months, avoid spicy food. Hope this information helps.
Regards. Dr.Shinas Hussain
