Does Recovery From Hernia Surgery Take Long?

I am scheduled for hernia surgery, having an incision, and wonder just how long it will take for me to feel well enough to travel as I already have a airline ticket to travel after 4 weeks.of scheduled surgery. Can I do something to help myself get stronger in that healing time.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

* As per my surgical experience, the post op recovery from hernia , if done mesh repair , usually take place around 2-3 weeks.
After which period, one can take a flight ride.
* Rest of the things , you can do to make yourself stronger are:
- High protein diet with balanced nutrition.
- Taking care of the local part hygiene.
- Regular follow up with your doc for antibiotic and anti inflammatory medicines.

Wish you fine recovery.
Thanks and regards.
