Does "Lamictal" Taken For Autism/seizure Cause Redness And Watering Of Eyes?

My son takes 25mg of lamictal 2 times per day for autism/seizure disorder. On sunny days he often gets very red around his eyes and they water and are painful. Is this related to the medication? (literature says it may cause sun sensitivity in children) Also, how long is it safe to stay on this medication? He has taken it for just over three years.
