Does Pain In Ankle Joint Indicate Gout?

i have woken in the night with severe pain in my ankle joint, is this potentially gout? Also I have been diagnosed with gilbert syndrome in the past (although it has no effect on my general wellbeing that im aware of) but could this exacerbate the gout? thanks

Hello,

If you suffer from gout, this kind of pain could be gout exacerbation. But, if you have not suffered from gout before, I would recommend consulting with your attending physician for a physical exam and some tests:
- A complete blood count, PCR, ESR
- An ankle X-ray study
- Uric acid plasma levels
- FR plasma levels, ASOtiter
- ANA and ANCA antibody titer

You should discuss with your doctor on the above tests.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
