Does Pain During Urination Suggest UTI?

Hi, I am 19 weeks pregnant. I think I may have the beginnings of a UTI but I ve never had one before and I am unsure. I have had a crampy, need to pee feeling in the right side near my uterus. It s not super painful and comes and goes. Should I run to the doctor or can I wait to see if it passes in a day or two? Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Urinary tract infections are the commonest bacterial infection during pregnant women and the risk increases with age. Women suffer more frequently from recurrent UTI than men because of their shorter urethra and proximity of urethral opening to anus. Other predisposing factors in old age include diabetes, urinary tract stones, steroid use, and chronic illness impairing immune system.
1.     Drink 4 – 5 liters of uncontaminated water to flush out bacteria
2.     Investigations – R/E of urine, C/S of urine, total & differential count of WBC, ultrasound abdomen
3.     Drink fruit juice and cranberry juice
4.     Do not hold your urine. Urinate when you feel
5.     Wipe from front to back after bowel movements
I am not suggesting you any medicines because you are pregnant and no medicine is safe during pregnancy. Further action will be taken as per report.
Thanks
