Does Numbness Of Arm And Face Because Of Nose Bleed Need Medical Attention?
My 18 year old son has always had nose bleeds. Today though, he was lightly blowing his nose when he felt and heard a pop under his right eye and immediately his nose started pouring blood. He lost about a pint and it finally stopped. Now he said his right side of his face and right inside of his arm feels kind of numb and tingling. I will take him to our family doctor as soon as they can get him in but is this more serious to where I should take him to ER?
Hello Thanks you for using HCM. The fact that bleeding has stopped presently is a good sign. He may be shown to your family doctor. It is a good idea to see an ENT specialist, may be after consulting your family doctor. An ice pack may be kept over the nose (if not already done) which would constrict the blood vessels immediately. If I were your son's treating doctor, I would do a nasal endoscopy- to look for any obvious bleeding vessels. The future course of action depends on the pathology inside the nose. Reconsider nose blowing as it might damage the delicate capillaries of the nose, so is nose picking. These are very common cause of nasal bleeding. Oxymetazoline nasal drops are helpful to decongest the nose. Ocean nasal spray to keep the moisture in the nose. Hope I have answered your questions. Regards Dr Rao
