i have just started my period today, and took my first does of northisterone today as im going on holiday this week and my period cam early so i was unable to start 3 days before as recommended. Will this stop my period while i take it or will it have no effect as i didnt ake it 3 days before?
Usually progesterone tablet is recommended to start at least three days before the expected date of periods, so that it will act on the endometrium and will prevent it's shedding. But its effect to prevent the menstrual flow is somewhat doubtful as the shedding of the endometrium has already started. It may decrease the blood flow to some extent but may or may not stop completely. By continuous use for 2 to 3 days it may act effectively in completely controlling the bleeding. But using progesterone tablets like this frequently can affect future menstrual cycles and can lead to irregular periods
