Hi,

Usually progesterone tablet is recommended to start at least three days before the expected date of periods, so that it will act on the endometrium and will prevent it's shedding. But its effect to prevent the menstrual flow is somewhat doubtful as the shedding of the endometrium has already started. It may decrease the blood flow to some extent but may or may not stop completely. By continuous use for 2 to 3 days it may act effectively in completely controlling the bleeding. But using progesterone tablets like this frequently can affect future menstrual cycles and can lead to irregular periods

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sree Gouri S. R., OBGYN
