Does Medication To Postpone Periods Hinder Conception?

We are planning on trying to conceive on our honeymoon, however, I am due on my period, 2 days before we fly, and they are extremely heavy, and last between 7 - 9 days. Because of the type of periods I experience, I don t want to feel restricted on my holiday, so I was wondering if there is anything I can take to stop my period for 18 days, that will not hinder conception? Many Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

After discontinuing your pills, wait for the next cycle for pregnancy. Progesterone only pills will hinder the ovulation which is controlled by oestrogen. Consult a obstetrician before trying to conceive.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pradeepraj, General & Family Physician
