Does Low WBC Indicate Viral Fever?

My daughter has had a fver for 3 days now - Mostly 101.5 to 102 - Twice went to 103.5 - No nausea, headache, vomiting or diarrhea. Had labs done - WBC was low at 2.o Lymphy ABS was low at 0.4 and Mono% was high at 11. SEG was high at 78 Monos Man was high at 13 Lymph Man was low at 9. Could this be viral. Have not spoken to MD regarding labs as office was closed when I received results.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

It is difficult to ascertain the cause from WBC count alone. We have to consider the symptom complex, epidemeological factors (like similar illness in family / neighbors) and the findings on physical examination. Low count is most commonly seen in viral fevers, but can be seen in bacterial infections like typhoid also. Your doctor will discuss in detail.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
