Does Itchy Rash On The Neck Indicate Symptom Of Lupus?

I just read this response: Since you already have Hashimoto s and Raynauds there is a high likelihood of you suffering from some connective tissue disorder or autoimmune disorder. There is a high likelihood of it being early SLE. You need to consult a endocrinologist who would advise you the various specific tests which will aid in the diagnosis. To this question: I have had a neck rash come & go for the last couple of months & was diagnosed with Hashimoto s the beginning of November. It can be itchy sometimes & other times it is more flushed than anything. Can this be caused by Hashimoto s? He states that he has a rash on HIS NECK...I thought Lupus rash is something found on the face -- checks and across the bridge of the nose. It would seem many people with Hashimotos have this rash on their neck myself included ....I have other symptoms as well but...would a rash on the neck be a symptom of Lupus?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Skin rash can have many reasons. the commonest being allergy, humidity related, topical dermatitis due to hair dye, clothing, ornamental chains, fungal skin infection, eczema and so on. This can be diagnosed by consulting a dermatologist as he is the most experienced to know what the skin problem would be, can take FNAC or biopsy to prove what is the disease, whether related to autoimmune disease and treat you specifically. The approach to your disease complex will be multidisciplinary.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
