Does Hormonal Imbalance Cause Infertility In Men?

Dear Doctor, I and my wife have been trying for a child for the last 4 months. My age is 30 and wife age is 21. In the initial stages, i had erection issue which i suffered only after my marriage. Anyway this issue was sorted out lately and we have been trying for child since then. Just now we had consulted a Gynecologist and she undergone for some scanning test. Doctor did not say the issue properly but i noticed a word, ie, cervical hypertrophy. As i have worked as an medical transcriptionist in the past, i checked about this and now having some doubts. Let me say about body: my hair growth is not satisfactory as i my beard still not fully developed. Other hair growth is normal. Also my nipple is somewhat looks like woman except during excitement or shower, but there is no cyst like structure inside my nipple. I had spoken to my doctor during teen age about this, but he discouraged me for a treatment as he said that this is normal. Now i feel like i have hormone issue when i lose erection sometimes during intercourse. Pls advise me on priority. Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Infertility is a treatment which requires the treatment of both the spouses. Both the partners need to be clinically examined, assessed & treated. Since you want a baby both of you should stay together in the same location. You may have premature ejaculation or erectile dysfunction. Consult a GP it will be treated with counseling, medicines & physical therapy techniques.

The female will have to take tests like, HSG, ovulation testing, hormone tests, Imaging tests(for uterus & fallopian tube defects), genetic testing along with blood tests & Urinalysis. The male partner will take tests like, Sperm function tests, testicular tests, testicular biopsy, scrotal USG, genetic testing & hormonal tests, etc.

The treatment will depend on the pathology detected & will be treated accordingly. In the mean time, to increase testosterone(male sex hormone) take food rich in protein(red meat, dry fruits, dairy products -milk, cheese, paneer, eggs, calcium & minerals. Flaxseed, broccoli are good. Both the partners should stay away from stress & take nutritious food, adequate rest, exercise & maintain healthy weight. Treatment may take time, have patience.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
