Does High Dosage Of Clomifene Help In Getting Pregnancy In Women With PCOs?

I have PCOS and trying to conceive. My OB ask me to take Clomifene citrate. On first cycle 1 50mg for five days. i ovulated but not get pregnant. On my second cycle 2 tablet 50 mg so that is 100mg in one day for 5 days. But still not pregnant. On my third cycle 150mg for five days. i just had my menstration now. August 05, 2015. I ll start my clomifine tomorow until five days.. my husband has a normal sperm count. i losing hope. do you think i can get pregnant by trying 150mg of clomifine. thanks a lot

Hi,

Yes, high dose of clomifence does help in getting pregnant. Based on the history you did not seem to respond to two cycles of clomifene and that is why your doctor has advised you to continue the third cycle for another five days. Continue taking it as prescribed.

However, if there is no response even to the third cycle it may be due to clomifene resistance which could be due high levels of male hormones, high prolactin levels, and obesity. You may need a course of oral birth control pills for two months prior to clomifene along with metformin and treatment of hyperprolactinemia if any.
