Does Escitalopram Affects To Conceive?

I have been taking Escitalopram for less than a month now and was wondering if this will affect our chances of getting pregnant? If so, do you suggest talking to my doctor and getting off of it so that we can continue to try and get pregnant? Just wasn't sure on the effects of fertility this pill has on a person.

Thank you!

Hi,

Esctilopram is an antidepressant belonging to selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors. It is usually not recommended during the pregnancy as that can lead to life threatening lung problems in the newborn. It has side effects like decreased libido also. But stopping the drug abruptly is also not indicated as that can lead to withdrawal effects.

So please consult your doctor once again and tell that you are planning for pregnancy, so that he can shift to any other drug or gradually taper the drug present. It is better to plan for the pregnancy after that.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
