Does Emergency Contraceptive Pill Cause Vaginal Discharge With Pain In Breasts And Ovary?

I had sex with my boyfriend on the 8th day of the menstrual period. I took emergency contraceptives within half an hour of unprotected sex. Now im having slight white vaginal discharge, pain in the breast, and sometimes theres pain in the ovary. I had my withdrwal bleeding(like spotting type) after 4 days of taking the emergency contraceptives. Is there any chance of getting pregnant? Im worried doctor.

Hi Dear,

It would have been helpful if you had mentioned the name of the pill you had taken to ensure the success rate. However, most pills are 85% effective when taken under 72 hours after having unprotected sex. You had taken it in half an hour after sex, so your chances of being protected from pregnancy are higher.

If you really want to confirm if you are pregnant or not, you can take a home pregnancy test. You can buy the stick over-the-counter at any medical or super store. How it is used is always described in the pack. You just have to pee on the indicator area and look for the plus (+) or (-) sign that indicates whether you are pregnant or not.

Moreover, slight white vaginal discharge that does not have foul odor is normal. You might be noticing and worried about it because you are too much worried about pregnancy.

Pain and heaviness in breasts and little pain in ovary is also normal during ovulation. However, if this persists, you might want to see a gynecologist for physical examination.

For future, I would advise you to have protected sex to prevent chances of pregnancy and venereal diseases. Taking too many emergency contraceptive pills is harmful to general health and expensive too. Emergency pills are for emergency and accidents only. Take care not to make them a routine.

I hope this information helps. Take care. Thanks for choosing HealthCareMagic to help you.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
