Does Drilling A Hole In Ear Help To Hear Better?

hi, i have a strange ear that doesn t have a hole for the sound to go through. Doctors checked that if the internal ear is working, and it is. i was wondering how and how much it would cost to have a hole drilled in so i can hear better. this is only for one of my ears, i am just curious.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your short history about having no ear canal as per the history you have noted, your Doctor has said that drilling through can improve your hearing.
Yes, very true of what your Doctor has mentioned. If the Audiometry has indicated that your affected ear has hearing mean the internal ear, middle ear and nerve structures are normal dripping the whole will surely help you to listen better through what we call as conduction through air hearing.
Best to consult an ENT Surgeon who is well experienced into such surgeries as one has to save the facial nerve and such structures.
Preliminary Combo-study with CT scan and MRI will give a 3-D picture to have best possible surgery with great outcome.
Take a second opinion also as this is a specialized surgery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT and General Surgeon
