Does Cramping, Fatigue, Swollen Cervix And Nausea Indicate Pregnancy?

I had unprotected sex after my last period. I ve experienced light cramping ever since along with other pregnancy symptoms (dizzy, odd appetite, fatigue, nausea). Then my most recent period comes on time with the usual flow but the color isnt the usual red, it has a hint of orange to it. And my cervix has swollen. Im not in any pain, Could i be or have been pregnant?

Hello, and I hope I can help you today.

Pregnancy symptoms can vary widely between women, and many symptoms that we associate with pregnancy: fatigue, odd cravings, nausea and bloating can also occur with ordinary PMS. Furthermore, many more women experience acute symptoms when they're worried about pregnancy and the stress and anxiety produced by the situation can actually affect the timing and quality of your next period.

The most common symptom associated with pregnancy is a missed menstrual cycle. So if your period came on time, you were never pregnant, and the fact that the blood coming from your uterus is slightly different color only indicates that it is flowing faster this particular month compared to your usual flow. Again, the stress of worrying about and unplanned pregnancy is what probably triggered the slight difference in quality of your menstrual flow.

So again, in summary I do not believe that you are ever pregnant this particular cycle. Regarding your "swollen" cervix, there really no visible changes in the cervix of pregnancy until well into the first trimester and most commonly, the second trimester. In addition, your cervix normally dilate slightly when you menstruate so that the blood can escape your uterus.

I hope that I was able to adequately answer your question today, and that this information was reassuring to you.

Best wishes,

Dr. Brown
