Does Antibiotic Treatment Cause Blisters Inside The Mouth And Gums With Swollen Lips?

I have been battling a head cold now for 10 days. Urgent care Dr gave me amoxocyllin for the bacterial infection.
I started feeling better but now I have a cut/abrasion inside my mouth, under my tongue on the right side.
I have a stinging pain in my gums and I have developed a swollen spot just on the outside on my face around my lips.
What could this be?

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes, antibiotics can cause blisters in mouth and gums along with swollen lips and breakout on face as it seems to be causing allergic reaction to you. Inflammation and ulceration inside mouth is due to Apthous stomatitis caused due to antibiotic allergy. You should stop taking the antibiotics and consult your physician.

You can be advised anti allergics like Levocetrizine and along with it start gargling with numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine. Suck ice and drink cool water and fluids. Take Vitamin B complex supplements. Avoid spicy and hard foods You can also do soda bicarb gargle and gargle with 1:1 solution of milk of magnesia and Benadryl.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Honey Arora
