Does Vyvanse Cause Chronic Cough?

Our son has been on Vyvanse for two weeks now and has had an uncontrollable cough for 5 days now. His doctor said, that if there are any side effects. To STOP! taking this particular medication. Is his non-stop coughing because of Vyvanse? We have been treating his cough with medicines and home remedies, but he still continues with no signs of slowing down.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Vyanse can cause a cough due to the availability of Norepinephrine which decreases mucous production, leading to a drier throat.

I suggest you give liquids to your son.

If the symptoms continue you should reconsider the medication with your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi,
