Does Ursodiol Intake Stunt A Child S Growth?

My 11 yr old grandson takes Ursodiol (liquid compound)) for a birth condition called Alpha1 antitrypstn deficiency and doing well but he is a very poor eater. Sometimes I give him vitamins but wonder if it s okay to do so. Also, does ursodiol stunt a child s growth? He plays football, basketball & baseball and wonder if these sports are harmful to his liver. The gastroenterologist says no and checks Chris every year in August. To date, his liver nos. are normal, but I wonder about the vitamins and growth. Most of his friends are taller but then his growth just might be a genetic thing and he will catch up. My email address is YYYY@YYYY and my name is Nell Witalis. Thank you.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The stunted growth is due to his genetic disorder affecting the metabolism and not due to Ursodiol.

You have to continue Ursodiol.

Nothing much to worry and your treatment is on the right track.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
