Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I started taking Tamsulosin (400 mcg) about three months ago for an enlarged prostate. The doctor who prescribed it said it would take a couple of months to become fully effective. In the past month I ve had dry orgasms and wonder if the drug may be the cause. I m 63 and otherwise healthy. The doctor did blood work and a rectal exam and assured me it was not cancerous. Any advice on a different but equally effective drug without the unanticipated side effect?
Welcome to Healthcare Magic. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Yes, Tamsulosin can cause retrograde ejaculation, dryness of semen and difficulty in orgasm. These are common side effects of Tamsulosin. The only treatment for this is stoppage of drug and start Finasteride. It is safer and having less side effects as compare to Tamsulosin. Don't worry, you will be alright with change of drug.
I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you have any further questions.
Take care.
