Hello Doctor, I have an ovarian cyst(hemorrhagic) on my right ovary. Doctor has prescribed to take Regestron 5mg for 20 days, which is a contraceptive pill. Request to suggest if it will work for hemorrhagic cyst ? And is there any side effect to get pregnant further ? Thanks in advance.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Yes, it does work for hemorrhagic cyst of the ovary. Regesterone is a synthetic progesterone commonly prescribed to treat abnormal or irregular menstrual bleeding, to induce bleeding in women with delayed periods, and to regularize the periods. As far the hemorrhagic cyst is concerned it usually resolves within 8 weeks there is no specific treatment for this condition. However, Regestrone will help in regularizing your period. Its common side effects include headaches, feeling sick and changes to your period, such as spotting between periods. It will not interfere with your fertility.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
