Does Prednisone Cause Shortness Of Breath?

My mother had a reaction to some tussin cough syrup and was prescribed a prednisone pkg. She is on her 4th day and had shortness of breath last evening and this afternoon both after taking her prednisone. Is this normal? It didn t last very long. She is 89 and very healthy.

It is very good thing that you are taking care of your mother at the age of 89.
Tussin syrup will definitely have some side effects. As your mother was 89, some medicines may not be suitable for her at that age.
In old age we should be careful while selecting the medicines and their dosages. Prednisolone won't be having any negative effect on breathing, infact it have some positive effects on breathing (improves breathing).
So this a normal thing. In my opinion it is better to change the cough syrup. You can use some other cough syrup like Ascoril-D, Benadryl Dry Forte etc
