Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Does Pravastatin Have Anticholinergic Side Effects Too?
Does Pravastatin have anticholinergic side effects too? What about Ramipril? I am already on Atenolol and glimepiride that do have anticholinergic properties. I recently restarted on Pravastin and noticed I seemed more fussy Carol My email address is YYYY@YYYY
Pravachol or Pravastatin is what is called HMG-CoA-Reductase Inhibitor and Ramipril is an ACE inhibitor. These medications work in the liver (pravastatin) and the kidney (ramipril), now these medications do not have any anticholinergic properties that have been reported or validated and to my knowledge these have no impact on the cholinergic system.
The pravastatin you mentioned specifically regarding fussiness, I cannot really explain that. I have not seen that specifically, that being said a lot of patients react differently and anything is possible but in truth these medications have no known anticholinergic activity.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. David Girardi, Internal Medicine Specialist
