Does Phenergan And Promethazine Show The False Positive Result In A Drug Test?

I am scheduled to have a drug test tomorrow and came down with the stomach flu this weekend. Got an injection of phenergan Saturday and am taking promethazine 25 mg this afternoon. My friend called and told me these can cause a false positive tomorrow, is that true?

Hi,
Thanks for writing to us,

Phenergan also contains promethazine and yes it is one of the drugs which is known to cause false positive results during screening for drugs of abuse. The most commonly used tests to screen urine for drugs of abuse are immunoassays, and false-positive results have been reported with a number of these rapid-screening products.

In order to prevent this, the results from such tests should be confirmed using additional methods of analysis, including gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.

Hope this answers your query.
