Long term use of Pantoprazole or other related antacids can lead to a condition known as achlorhydria where acid production in your stomach is greatly reduced and may lead to slightly higher chance for stomach cancer. However there is only mild risk and the benefits certainly outweighs the risk. Most of the gastroenterologist do not recommend use more than a year. You can use the drug on an SOS basis where you have to take the drugs only when you have symptoms.
