Does Omeprazole Interact With Diuretic Medication?

This is a little complicated. My husband takes sinemet each morning for Parkinson s waits an hour then takes an omeprazole tablet. Because of his swollen ankles, his PA took him off his blood pressure medicine and prescribed a diuretic. The PA said to give him the diuretic in the morning. What would be the schedule for giving the pills? Do I give him the omeprazole at the same time I give him the diuretic? Also, he has low sodium so he has to limit his water intake and increase his salt. I read that the diuretic can deplete the potassium in your body. Should I give him a potassium supplement and what amount do you recommend? Thanks for your help. Susan Phillips

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Continue to give him Sinemet, olmesartan and BP medicines as before.

The diuretic should be taken in the day time. As it increases the urine output, the patient suffers a lot in the night as he has to get up many times to pee.

It will not be right for you to supplement potassium blindly. Increase potassium-rich foods like banana, coconut water, and citrous fruits. Get electrolytes (sodium and potassium)checked periodically.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
