Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I recently started nuvaring but I didn't insert it during my cycle. My cycle was from the 6th_12th and it's now the 17th and I'm putting it in for the first time. Is this going to cause problems with my cycle?? Should I have not out it in until I started my period?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. You need to follow instructions correctly when you are using contraceptive device like 'Nuvaring'. If you have inserted it on some other day other than when it was instructed, you will have alterations in your menstrual cycle. Also, the protection offered also would be less effective when done in such a manner. Kindly use other modes of contraception like condom and spermicides until you get your periods. Following getting your periods, your menstrual cycle should regularise, but might take about 3 months to stabilize. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best. Regards, Dr. Ashakiran.S., MBBS., MD.
