Hi docs, just want to ask I missed my period for Dec last year then I go to the hospital and the ob gyne gave me norethisterone and got my period on January after I stopped taking it...my concern is will my period become regular again? .and should I keep taking this pill.? I m a regularfor menstruation?...please doc I need ur advise
First of all, it has to be determined whether you are getting irregular periods because of hormonal imbalance in the body or there is some other cause like hypothyroidism or PCOD. These can be diagnosed with the help of simple blood tests and ultrasound. Norethisterone does help to regularise periods but it has to be taken in the right manner. You have to discuss with your gynecologist whether you need to continue with the pills or not as she will be aware of your problem. Generally, when Norethisterone is prescribed to regularise periods it is continued for three to six months.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Nazma.amman
