Does Morphine Sulfate Cause Brain Damage In The Long Run?
I have been taking Morphine sulfate ER 90 mg daily for about 10 yrs. I am afraid I may have some brain damage from it. Do you have any information or studies that have been done on this subject. My memory has gotten so bad I have been tested for the damage, which they said was true. Thanks Linda Email YYYY@YYYY
Hi Linda, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Morphine Sulfate is an opioid agonist medication, which is indicated to be used for the relief of moderate to severe acute and chronic pain, where use of an opioid analgesic is appropriate. Since you have taken the medication for long period of time (10 years), you might be experiencing the side effects caused by its use pertaining to central nervous system. However, it needs to be investigated for the cause of memory loss like weather caused by use of morphine or some other organic lesion. Kindly consult Neurologist for proper evaluation and management. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
