Does Methergine Intake During Pregnancy Cause Meconium Aspiration In Child?

My wife was 8.5 months pregnant and was given the wrong medicine by the pharmacy. Instead of medicine to lower blood pressure, she was give methergine. 2 days after taking methergine, she gave birth to our son, but he has meconium aspiration. 4 days after giving birth, she bled and had to undergo hysterectomy. Did methergine cause her uterus to fail too? Thanks

hi methergin can cause the uterus to contract and baby to pass meconium in utero but there can be other reason for the same too. secondly it could cause tetanic contraction of the uterus resulting in rupture uterus too which could cause sudden haemorrhage in your wife s case . methergin is absolutely contraindicated in pregnancy.since you are saying your wife was having hypertension. sometimes that also causes abruption and bleeding. take care and all the best .
