Does Marfan S Syndrome Cause Radiating Chest Pain, Shortness Of Breath And Swelling In Ankle?

I am 45 SWF experiencing hypertension (Systolic average range: 130 to 135/Diastolic range:80-90).Pain in left side, radiating towards outside, directly below breast area. Shortness of breath, fatigue, head aches, intermittent blurry vision, more than usual difficulty concentrating, right ankle area swollen, pain in middle upper back, left ear pain (not sure if it is relevant), nausea. Onset of symptoms was approximately 4 to 5 weeks ago (possibly a little longer even, but have worsened in severity, and time each episode lasts-started off weeks ago lasting no longer than 30 minutes, or so). Also, ankle swelling has worsened significantly, with little to no relief now. Any ideas? Thank you, Carol Was diagnosed with Marfans Syndrome in 1989, but could have possibly been misdiagnosed.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Signs of the Marfan syndrome include:

Long arms, legs and fingers, tall and thin body type, curved spine, chest sinks in or sticks out, flexible joints, flat feet, crowded teeth, stretch marks on the skin that are not related to weight gain.

Major criteria can include:

An enlarged aorta, a tear in the aorta, dislocation of the lens of the eye, a family history of the syndrome, at least four skeletal problems, such as flat feet or curved spine (scoliosis) enlargement of the lining that surrounds part of the spinal cord (dural ectasia).

Before you suppose any diagnosis in your mind have a consult with your doctor because self-diagnosis might cause you anxiety meantime you do not seem to have the Marfan syndrome.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Suzana Zharri, General & Family Physician
