Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, under the guidance of my GP, I recently stopped using losartan blood pressure tablets, as it was causing me to belch (burp). Is this a known side effect? My GP has now changed my tablets to amlodipine, and I have noticed the belching to be almost gone
Incomplete data like age, gender, duration of treatment taken, any other concomitant medication, or illness?
Yes, it may cause belching. Losartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) commonly prescribed alone or together with other medications to treat high BP (hypertension).
Its most common side effects include dry cough, nasal congestion, hyperkalemia (increase blood potassium), hypotension and angioedema (swelling or puffiness of the face).
Although less common but belching or flatus can also occur among females who are 60 years old, have been taking the drug for less than 1 month, also take medication proton pump inhibitors like Omeprazole.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
