Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son is schizophrenic and takes haldol by needle once a month. He complains of severe pain in his arm after the injection and it hurts so bad he can t drive his car. He also has severe kidney disease. What should I do? Will this medicine do more damage to his kidneys?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Haloperidol is metabolized by hepatic metabolism. The drug is relatively safer in renal issues. If he is receiving injections once per month, then no need to get worried.
He can have injections, and this will not cause renal damage. Please consult his psychiatrist regularly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Seikhoo Bishnoi
