Does Doxepin HCL Cause Blood In Stools, Constipation And Painful Lower Abdomen?

I am a male 54 years old on a lot of different meds. For the last few days I am slightly uncomfortable in the lower stomach area, I am constipated from all these meds, for the last few days when I try to have a BM only a little comes out along with some very bright red blood, I am on a new med doxepin HCL 10 mg for about 10 days now could this have anything to do with it ? if not what else could it be?

Hi,

Doxepin may cause constipation. Doxepin is a tricyclic antidepressant commonly prescribed for the treatment of depression, anxiety and other psychiatric disorders.

Its common side effects include drowsiness, dry mouth, blurred vision, increased heartbeats, constipation, urinary retention, weight gain, and postural hypotension.

It is not known to cause blood in the stools or painful lower abdomen. You are advised to consult your doctor for further evaluation and to rule out other causes like inflammatory bowel disease, polyps, or diverticulosis.
