Does Benzonatate Intake Affect Blood Pressure Levels?

I have borderline blood pressure issues which I am now taking meds for. I have a head cold with a bad cough & took 1 benzonatate cap for the cough. This was prescribed to me before the bp issues. Does benzonatate have any effect on bp like I know some cold meds can?

General & Family Physician 's  Response

Benzonatate is a non-opioid drug commonly used to treat coughs caused by the common cold and other breathing problems It works by numbing the throat and lungs, making the cough reflex less active.

It has no direct effect (or at least it has not been reported) on blood pressure or any heart condition. Although rare however, it may cause allergic reactions though, which may - indirectly - lower the blood pressure and cause cardiovascular collapse in its most serious presentation.

Hope I could answer your query.
Best regards.
