Does Atorvastatin Cause Diarrhea?

I have had Diarrhea for years now. I take many medications etc. and I eliminate them one at a time to find out if one of them is causing the problem etc. I am taking 40 mg of Atorvastatin and I have read that this Generic can cause Diarrhea. I have told my Doctor over and over but so far anything he has told me to do or take has solved the problem. My Doctor told me to pick up Fibercon or Generic (Polcarbophil ) OTC 500mg and take one pill 2 times per day but when I read the bottle it said this will cause Diarrhea. I am at a loss here. I am a Heart Patient and have had Two Open Heart Surgeries, and 2 Heart Attacks and I have 7 By-Passes etc.

Statins group of drugs are known to cause side effects on digestive system like nausea,constipation or diarrhea.This can be managed by-

-Taking the pill with your evening meal.

-Dropping the pill for 8-10 days & see whether the diarrhea stops with that.

-Changing the type/brand of drug



Consult your prescribing doctor.
