1. Although recent studies have suggested that there is no significant effect on estrogen levels with statin treatment thus it's use as estrogen inhibition will require more research and clinical trials.
2. Although there is/are limited evidence to prove the role of statin in
memory loss, but one may talk to his doctor if experiencing memory loss or confusion while taking statins.
PS. since this side effect is not reported in the official prescribing information for
atorvastatin thus without a study it is impossible to determine whether this cholesterol-lowering drug is causing confusion and memory loss.
3. clinically significant memory loss may occur during the treatment with atorvastatin [if proved otherwise] and treating physicians should be aware of this phenomenon, and because the incidence is very variable thus you should talk with your attending physician as to how to proceed further.
PS. under no circumstances you should stop-change- alter the dosage without first consulting with your doctor since it could be due to age-related conditions like Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson disease,
cognitive impairment or reversible factors like a thyroid problem,
vitamin B12 deficiency,
dehydration.
