Does Aricept Cause Sleepwalking?

Can aricept cause sleepwalking? My elderly mother has Parkinsons and just started on aricept because of some short-term memory issues. Since starting the drup she has had two incidents of finding herself on the floor late at night. She has not fallen and has not gotten hurt, but cannot explain how she has gotten there.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Aricept is composed of Donepezil, which is a reversible inhibitor of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase and is a medication used in the palliative treatment of Alzheimer's disease.

Commonly known side effects include: Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Other side effects included difficulty sleeping, muscle cramps and loss of appetite. Side effects improved with continued use.

Sleep walk is not a known side effect observed or listed with the use of this medication. However, if you encounter such side effect often or becomes bothersome, you need to consult your doctor for proper advice.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
