Does Amaryl Prescribed For Blood Sugar Burn Out The Pancreas?

Dear Doctor! Few years ago I used 1mg Amaryl ansmy bloodsugar level was about 5- 6,5 mmol/lMy doctor changed to Galvus 50 mg. Now my level is higher over 7,5. I try to ask get me back the old medicine but he said amaryl will be burn out my pancreas Galvus is much better. Is this really threat? The old one work better for me.

Amaryl is glimipiride which is a sulfonylurea drug. Studies have shown that it will burns out beta cells. It will help to improve Hba1c level in beginning but long term effect is not good. Glavus (vildagliptin) is safe in that case.It gives a good long term out come. With proper follow up with your doctor your Hba1c level will get normalized.Hope this may help you.
