Do Surgeries Done After Heart Valve Replacement Cause Any Complications?

I have got my Mitral and Aortic valves replaced two years before and have been maintaining INR at 3.0 using Acitrom tablets. I am aware of the bleeding risks. The question is if I happen to undergo some minor or major surgery, how the surgeons would manage?

Hi,

In such patients who are taking anticoagulants, they should stop the drugs 7 days before the surgery. No need to worry about INR control for those 7 days. Get an INR on the day of the surgery. If this is normal then you can going for surgery without risk. Even if there is a risk of bleeding, the surgeon can give vitamin K injection to stop the bleeding.

You can ask to resume your anticoagulant drug 4 days after surgery.

Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further.
