Do Statin Drugs Negate The Benefits Of Exercising?
I m taking 20mg simvastatin, because my total cholesterol was about 212 and L DL was about 43. Doctor ordered. Last reading I had was 173 total and about 50 LDL. My question is am I wasting my time exercising. I have read that taking a statin negates the benefits of exercise. I m not happy with that at all. YYYY@YYYY
Taking statin won't negate the benefits of exercise, instead, regular exercise will help in bringing down your cholesterol faster. Since you have started the anticholesterol drugs recently, it may take some time for your cholesterol levels to stabilize. Moreover, sometimes there may be fluctuations in the lab readings, and it is not a cause to get disheartened. I would advise you to maintain a healthy diet and avoid saturated fat and processed foods. Do daily exercise like 30 mins of brisk walking. These measures will help you to get your cholesterol in the normal range and also decrease the dose of your statins.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Nazma.amman
