Do Nausea And Vomiting After Removal Of Mirena IUD Suggest Pregnancy?

Hi, I m a 37yo woman. I ve just had the Mirena removed approx 8 weeks ago due to issues with it. I am with a long-term partner, looking to conceive early next year. My previous period finished just as I got the Mirena out. It took 6 weeks for my next period to start. I usually run on a short 28 day cycle, so this was a long wait. I became concerned, took a pregnancy test 2 weeks ago, which was negative. This past week, I ve been nauseous in the morning. I take metformin, which I have stopped 3 days ago as I thought it may be contributing, but still nauseous and vomited this morning. Wondering if I need to follow up with another pregnancy test? My partner and I have been careful to avoid unprotected sex except in the days just after my period. I don t have any other pregnancy symptoms.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

If the test was done at the appropriate time (11 to 14 days after possible conception) , then it is accurate.

Another cause for early morning nausea and vomiting would be reflux if the test is truly negative.

The other causes for delayed period are: (1)abnormal levels of thyroid hormone
(2) emotional stress or illness
(3)PCOS- polycystic ovarian syndrome
(4)high levels of prolactin hormone
(5)physical illness or stress
(6)inadequate diet
(7)high levels of physical activity/exercise

I hope this helps
