Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Which antidepressent is least likely to cause diarrhea? This is for my 20 year old daughter, and she has tried buspirone and Prozac and both caused chronic diarrhea that left her almost home bound. She is very frustrated and is reluctant to try a third one. But she does need an antidepressant. Her mood and personality and outlook on life had greatly improved with the Prozac.....which she took for about a month, but she is 20 and in a wedding and in summer school and cannot become home bound. As soon as she discontinues the antidepressent the diarrhea improves within days. She goes back to college six hours from home in the fall, and we would like to have her on the right medicine and not dealing with diarrhea while away from home in college. She goes back to her doctor in two weeks (her doctor us on vacation right now), but it would be good to go to the next visit with information to help the doctor find the right answer...especially since out time is limited with fall semester starting in August.
