Do I Need To Take Ciprofloxacin And Metronidazole Antibiotics For 10 Days?

I am diagnosed with 1:40 titre of salmonella Typhi and is prescribed to take ciprofloxacin and metronidazole for 10 days. I sometimes feel restless due to these medicines. do I need to take both antibiotics for 10 days or cipro I could stop after 7 days

Hello,

if you're talking about Widal test then this is not so reliable. I suppose that's why your doctor prescribed empiric treatment with both ciprofloxacin and metronidazole. For Salmonella ciprofloxacin would have been enough. If other pathogens are involved though, both antibiotics are commonly used for intestinal infections. We usually prescribe them for 10 days. Stopping them at 7 days increases the risk for either incomplete treatment or recurrence.
